village stay ~about life~

village stay ~about life~

I came back from the village stay yesterday.
I was bitten by a lot of mosquitoes and ants..,and so itchy,so I regret I didn't bring enough medicine for an insect bite.
My skin is painted by sunscreen, insect protect spray and medicine for an insect bite..

I went to the village by bus,and it took about2hours.
On the way,I saw a lot of bridges which is building by Japanese .
There isn't bridge ,so we must cross a river by car,so I think it is so important.
The village there isn't electricity,water supply,gas,toilet and shower,of course I can't mobile phone there,
so we must use wireless if I want to contact withe JICA desk.
The village was so beautiful ,and In front of the village ,there was emerald green sea! .
My host mother is a tidy housewife, she cleaned up every morning in the house and around house.
In my room there is a bed and It was clean and beautiful.
The house was like this and it made with palm,it is traditional Solomon house.
The first pic is the main house and the second pic is the kitchen.
There is no gas, so When they cook every time they make a fire by woods and coconuts.
In the village there are free-range chickens and pigs are also at pasture.

A lot of chickens crew all together from 4am to 6am every morning,so I could wake up naturally,so I needed not set the alarm. Chicken is said ' kokorako' in Pijin language,I could exactly heard 'kokorako' every morning.

There is the traditional phrase in Pijin language ,from3am to 5am is said 'team kokorako i krae'(the time which kokorako crow.) I thought it is correct.

For 5 days I didn't see my watch, there isn't watch in the village and house,of course there isn't newspaper, radio and internet.Almost all the people didn't how old they are, they knew just when they were born.

And when they knew what time it was ,they saw their shadow, they could suppose between shadow and sun.

But they go to a church every Sunday morning,so perhaps I suppose they know what day today is.
At night it is so dark, because they don't have electricity ,so when they cooked they used with a torch, and when we ate I compulately couldn't see the food .

They also don't have a toilet.when I heard where the toilet was,and he said 'Go to sea'
I tried to do…,but it was so hard.
Whenever I went to toilet, host mother or girls came together for safe ,and they waited me kindly.
In the daytime pig cried boo boo near me..,and at night there were so big frog at my feet, and a lot of fries came to me.
In the rainy days I got wet ,and there were still more frogs.
I went to the toilet which there isn't a door in China,I thought it is better than the outdoor's toilet.

beautiful sea but they say go toilet pointing at sea.

Here is the shower! It is just the water tap and I must go shower in public.
When they take a shower, they use ravarava,I also used it,so first I wrapped it around my body, and I did.
In the last day I could wash my body and hair with just a soap .
Children stayed with while I took a shower, and they gave me advice how to wash.

There were a lot of children in the village, and They call me 'Chiro' because it was difficult to pronounce 'Chihiro'.
In my surprise, they always helped their parents, for example washing car, washing dishes, weeding garden, cleaning, and more.
Any time they helped me,so I tried to help them.
They don't have a toy,so they played in the sea, climbing a tree and singing a song.
Even though they have nothing, anytime they looked like enjoying.
They were so strong because they always ran with bare feet, climbed high tree, swam with no glasses and paddled a canoe.

staka pikinini (a lot of children)

And host family also welcomed me ,and I received a hearty welcome.
Furthermore, village people ,too, someone gave me a lot of fishes, a lobster , crab and coconut, and they were so fresh!
Any time any where Solomon people called me with a smile, even if I didn't know them.
Fortunately I didn't think hard for 5 days because of their kindness.
In the last dinner, they prayed for me that I would have a good time ,and I would spend days in healthy in 2 years.
My host father said 'We will welcome you any time, and we are family in Solomon, and If something would happen we always help you anytime.'
When I heard that,I felt so happy.
