the happenings of this week...
週末はアウキに行き食料調達に行きました。
行きはボートで２時間。とっても気持ちの良いクルージングでした。
しかし帰り道とんでもない目に遭いました。
マルーからアウキまでの交通機関はトラックのみ。たった８０kmをトラックで５時間もかかります。
最初は好調に進んでいましたがだんだん雲行きが怪しくなってきて、大雨、強風に。それでもトラックは進みました。もちろんオープンカーなので私もずぶ濡れ。
すると・・・突然トラックが止まる。パンクしたらしい。
２時間修理を行い、再度出発。なんとか進んでいるものの変な音がするし明らかに怪しい・・。
１０kmほど進んでまたストップ。エンジンが動かないらしい・・・。
その後また修理を行い進む・・。
その繰り返しで、結局マルーまであと２０kmの地点。４度目のストップでトラックは動かなくなりました。
酷い道でお尻が痛くてしょうがない。
すでに日も落ちて真っ暗。
そして彼らは「今日は野宿をする」と。
しかし私のみ、近くの村の方のご好意で家に泊めてもらう事になりました。
翌日起きると、一緒にトラックに乗って来た方々は姿を消していました。
夜中にたまたま通ったトラックに乗って帰ったらしい。
泊めてくれた方に聞くと、「彼らは野宿をしながら酔っぱらっていたので危なくて一緒に帰らせなかったよ」と。村の方々の優しさでした。
結局一人残された私は炎天下の下朝から通りかかるトラックを待つ事になりました。
しかし待てど待てどトラックは来ない。トラックの音を待っても通るのはニワトリか子どものみ。誰も来ない道を見ながら日本が恋しくなりました。
しかし９時間後、ボートが近づいて来ました。
私の病院のスタッフがボートを頼んで迎えに来てくれたのでした。
・・・という久しぶりに異国での生活の厳しさを痛感した週末でした。
トラックはすぐに壊れる。交通手段はない。冷蔵庫がないから冷たい水もアイスも食べれない。テレビも見れない。野菜は週に２回am4:00~am6:00のマーケットを逃すと手に入らない・・。肉屋はない。魚屋もない。
でも不思議な事に生活は次第に慣れて来ています。
お仕事は順調にしています。勤務時間は８時から１６時までです。まだまだマンパワーとして働いていますがそれでも役に立てれば良いなと思っています。
主に病院の中にある母子保健センターで働いています。妊婦検診や乳幼児健診、予防接種、ファミリープランニングなどがあります。
今日は乳児健診の日でした。今日は健診をほとんど任されて、なんとかつたない現地語とピジン語でお母さんに健康指導もしました。
産科小児科の経験がない私には難しいこともありますが、現地の看護師に分からない事は何でも聞きながら仕事をしています。皆とても優しく教えてくれるので何でも聞ける環境です。朝から晩までずっと現地の人と一緒に居るのでピジン語は自然に慣れて来ています。ただ現地語は全くピジン語とは異なるので、さっぱりわかりません。
勤務後は病院のスタッフの家族と一緒にごはんを食べています。皆でパンを作ったりもしました。
牛乳が手に入らないのでココナッツミルク入りのパンを作りました。
色々チャレンジしたいです。
あとはウクレレを教えてもらったり・・・。夜はお父さんがウクレレを弾いて家族でダンスをしたり歌を歌ったり、とっても素敵な夜を過ごしています。

In front of my house there is a papaya tree.
father plays the ukulele and children sing a song and dance!!
On holiday I went to Auki,which is the biggest town in the Island to get some foods and something to live.When I leave for Auki I rode a boat,but when I came back to my village I rode a track.Track is the only way to go back to my village.From Auki to Maluu,it is only 80km,but the road is so bad,so it takes more than5hours by track.
It was a disaster.At first it was a good start,but gradually it started raining ,and Finally It was raining cats and dogs.After that the track stopped,the tire was punctured,so the track couldn’t move more.After that they started fixing the tire,and it took for 2 hours…. After fixing,the track went on a few kilometers,and stopped again,and they started fixing again.They repeated the same happening.4 times after the track couldn’t move forever.it was midnight,so they decided they sleep in the open,but I could stay someone’s house who live near the village.
Next day when I waked up,people who drived the track were nowhere to be seen,so I waited the track which go to my village alone,but however long I wait,the track didn’t pass.I thought I missed Japan.9 hours after a boat appeared near me,it was the boat for picking me up which my boss arranged.Finally I could come back to my village.
There is few to transport, no frige,no TV,the shower is only cold water, and market is only two times per week,but gradually I can acclimate myself to the new life.
My work is from8am to 4pm.My job is mainly working at maternal and child health center. In the center we will do well baby care, vaccination ,prenatal examination and family planning.Today I did health examination for children.I don’t have the experience which worked at obstetrical department and pediatrics,so sometimes it is difficult to work,but anytime I can ask nurses and they are kind ,so I can work smoothly.
After work I spend time with my friends.sometimes we bake bread which used coconut milk instead of milk! And I am practicing playing the ukulele.I want to enjoy and try new something in Solomon.
