　今日はソロモン諸島について紹介します。
オーストラリアの北東、パプアニューギニアの南東に位置します。
大体オーストラリアから飛行機で３時間くらいです。飛行機のチケットを買う場合は、パプアニューギニアでトランジットの方が安く購入出来るそうです。
　ソロモン諸島は１０００以上の島からなる国で、全ての面積を合わせても岩手県の２倍くらいの小さな島です。人口は約５０万人です。
　気候は熱帯地方なので一年中高温多湿です。１月〜４月までは雨期でその他は乾期となります。
　
　ソロモン人が好んで使う''wantoku''という言葉があるのですが「同じ言葉を話す仲間」と言う意味で、それゆえにお互い分け与えるのが当然、助け合うのが当たり前という精神のようです。wantokuなら何でも無償で協力しなければならない、またwantokuの中では時に法律さえも超えてしまう決まりがあるそうです。

　たくさんの島々がありますが、首都はガダルカナル島のホニアラです。ちなみに私はガダルカナルの上にあるマライタ島のマルーに行きます。ガダルカナルから船または飛行機で３時間かけてマライタ島アウキへ、その後トラックで３時間です。

　ガダルカナル島は、第２次世界大戦中に日本軍と米軍が激突した島で、いたるところに日本軍や米軍の残した兵器が今も放置されたままになっています。最近山本五十六という映画を見ましたが、彼が上空で墜落されたブーゲンビル島は、ソロモンのすぐ横のパプアニューギニアにある島の一つです。

　ガダルカナル島は当時「餓島」とも呼ばれたそうですが、２万人以上の兵士の大半が饑餓、マラリアの感染によって命を落としたそうです。まだ１万以上の遺体は帰還できていなくて、ソロモンの地、海底に眠ったまま。現在になっても日本政府の遺骨収集団が毎年ソロモンを訪れています。できることなら私も少しでも力にでもなりたいと思っています。
　そんな歴史もある中でもソロモン人はとっても親日家ということです。これまでも日本のODAで資金や技術協力をしてきたということもあるのだと思います。実は日本ととっても密接な関わりのあるソロモンに行くという事・・複雑な気持ちがあります。しかし日本とソロモンの外交のためにも現地の医療向上のためにも、日本人として、きちんと任務を全うして帰国したいです。

Solomon Islands

Today I’d like to explain about SolomonIslands.I’ll tell you about it’s geography,culture,food ,and the relationship between Japan and Solomon.

First,I 'll tell you about the geography of Solomon Islands. It is in the northeast part of Australia, and in the southeast part of Papua New Guinea. Solomon’s area is 28,900 square kilometers ,It is ２times as large land as Iwate prefecture. The population of Solomon is 507,000 .it has 5 times as many people as Tajimi town has.

Next, I’ll tell you about culture. In Solomon, there is a word called ''wantoku''.It means companions who speaks the same language must help eachother. They are people who have the same consciousness.

Next I’ll tell you about food.There are not any supermarkets or restaurants in Malu where I will live . I must buy some vegetables in a market ,which is held No more than 3times a week. It’s better than nothing.Almost all of the people in Maluu are self-sufficient in food. If I wanted to eat fish, and if I wanted to eat some fruits, they seem to catch and give me somethings. In Solomon, there are a lot of delicious fluits,pineapple ,starfluit ,mango ,papaiya ,banana,and watermelons! I’m looking forward to eating them. The staple foods of the Solomon Islands are potatoes and rice. To my surprise ,They usually seem to eat instantnoodle on rice.

Finally I’ll tell you about relationship between Japan and Solomon.Solomon Islands was independent from England In 1893.The second war broke out between American and Japanese from 1942 to 1945.The war took a heavy toll of lives in Guadalcanal Island. Many combat planes and tanks are still left there. I was so sad and ashamed of my ignorance. The goverment of Japan still has to gather the remains of the war dead every year. In the war, more than 20,000 the Japanese soldiers died in Solomon. There are still more than10,000the remains in Solomon Islands. I think it is very important for their families and people were killed in the war. So,it is one of the important thing I’d like to do there.
